At the moment, I am working on the Stardust Collection combining my love for weaving with my fascination for the universe. Read more in the introduction of the Stardust Collection. Today, I would like to introduce you to Ultraviolet.
Op dit moment werk ik aan de Stardust Collectie waarin mijn liefde voor weven en mijn fascinatie voor het universum samen komen. Lees meer in de introductie van de Stardust Collectie. Vandaag stel ik jullie voor aan Ultraviolet.
Ultraviolet: the brightest stars of the universe
Everything radiates. Not just stars, but also planets, plants, animals and people. This radiation is temperature-dependent and spans the entire color palette of the rainbow — from ultraviolet to infrared. Us people give off infrared radiation, while the hottest stars in the universe radiate predominantly ultraviolet. These rare stars can reach temperatures of 30.000 °C. Their bright radiation allows us to observe them, even if they are very remote. For this shawl, I have used different shades of violet as a tribute to these extreme stars brightening up our universe.
Alles straalt, niet alleen sterren, maar ook planeten, planten, dieren en mensen. De straling is afhankelijk van temperatuur en doorloopt de kleuren van de regenboog van ultraviolette straling naar infrarode straling. Wij als mensen stralen in het infrarood, maar de heetste sterren in het universum stralen voornamelijk ultraviolette straling uit. Deze zeldzame sterren kunnen maar liefst 30.000 °C warm zijn en zijn door hun felle straling van ver door ons waar te nemen. Voor deze sjaal met violette tinten heb ik mij laten inspireren door deze extreme sterren uit ons universum.

Yarn and color palette
Ultraviolet is made of a cotton and bamboo blend, which is both warm and breathable and has a subtle shimmer. It will keep you warm on cold days and cool on warm days. I combined a black warp with two shades of purple in the weft. In the finishing, I added a touch of turquoise.
Ultraviolet is gemaakt van een mix-garen met bamboe en katoen met een subtiele glans. Dit geeft een warm en toch luchtig resultaat. Het garen houdt je warm als het koud is en koel wanneer het warm is. In de sjaal is een zwarte schering gecombineerd met een inslag van twee tinten paars. In de afwerking heb ik een turquoise accent toegevoegd.
Weaving technique
Ultraviolet is made using the advancing twill weaving technique. A standard twill pattern can be recognized by clear diagonal lines, as can be seen in jeans fabric. In an advancing twill pattern, these diagonal lines are moved back and forth, creating zigzags. By varying this back-and-forth movement, numerous beautiful patterns can be created.
For Ultraviolet, I applied the advancing twill technique with two different shades of purple. Alternating a light and dark shade of purple gives a lively result.
Ultraviolet is geweven met de verschoven keper weeftechniek. Een standaard keperpatroon kun je herkennen aan de duidelijke diagonale lijnen. Veel spijkerstof is bijvoorbeeld geweven als standaard keper. In een verschoven keper worden deze diagonale lijnen als het ware heen en weer geschoven. Dit zorgt voor een zigzag effect. Door te variëren met dit heen-en-weer schuiven ontstaan talloze mooie patronen.
In Ultraviolet pas ik de verschoven keper weeftechniek toe met twee verschillende tinten paars. Het afwisselen van een donkerpaarse en lichtpaarse tint geeft een levendig resultaat.

The reaction were heartwarming and I am proud to tell you that both the Luminosity shawl and the Supernova shawl have already found a new owner. De Stardust Collectie zal in de herfst beschikbaar zijn in de damesmodezaak Eighty in Emmeloord. Neem gerust contact met me op bij opmerkingen of vragen.
